Fiber Optics Training

Fiber Optic design, installation and maintenance is a profession that will see increasing demands in the future.
Goal: To provide the student with the knowledge and skills to become a Fiber Optic Assembler or Installer/Technician.
Program Length: Three weeks/120 hours. 10 college credit hours
Program Description: Introduction to the basics of fiber optics. Students will learn guidelines for fiber optic design and installation, techniques for pulling and preparing cable, as well as cable termination and testing.
Degree/Certificate Earned:
- Career Studies Diploma from Southwest Virginia Community College (SVCC) in Fiber Optic Assembly, Installation and Technician.
- Tri-County Certificate.
Job Placement Potential: Telephone companies, Internet Companies, and Cable Companies.
Schedule: Classes start on the first Monday of each month.
Admission Requirements: Applicants must be 18 years or older and have a basic knowledge of reading and math skills.
Financial Aid: Depends on locality of residence and household income.
