Construction is a thriving business in constant need of safe, competent heavy equipment operators.
Goal: Graduates will have the knowledge and skills to work in the construction industry as operators of heavy equipment such as dozers, end loaders, excavators, and back-hoes.
Program Length: Five weeks/200 hours. 12 college credit hours(College Credits depend on locality of residence call for more information).
Program Description: The Heavy Equipment Career Studies Certificate is designed to prepare students for entry level positions as Heavy Equipment Operators with various constructions companies throughout the region. A major portion of the program will be instruction in the heavy equipment operation with additional courses taught in blueprint reading for heavy construction and industrial safety concepts.
Degree/Certificate Earned:
- Career Studies Diploma from Southwest Virginia Community College (SVCC)or Mountain Empire Community College(College Credits depends on locality of residence.
- Tri-County Certificate.
- OSHA/Flagman Certification
Occupation Pay Scale: Construction and Equipment Operators average $1,800 - $3,600 monthly.
Schedule: Classes start on the first Monday of each month.
Admission Requirements: Applicants must be 18 years or older prior to the first day of class, in sound physical health and meet the general admission requirements established by SVCC.
Financial Aid: Depends on locality of residence and household income.
